The Ability to Remember the Truly Important Things
I cherish those moments of clarity and truth that are accompanied by spiritual light that fills our entire soul. Such times give us increased hope and strength to keep us moving forward on the covenant path. They become the lamp unto our feet and guides the way. Such moments give us courage and determination and confidence: invaluable characteristics we need to face head-on the trials and troubles that come with living in a fallen world.
We hold these times close to our heart, deeply imbedded into the fabric of our being. They change us. Refine us. Fit us for the Kingdom.
And then something unexpected happens. Something that might even feel like it came out of nowhere and we never even had a hint of its coming. It shakes us and shocks us and is oftentimes incredibly painful, perhaps even both physically and emotionally.
And then because we are fallible, mortal humans we sometimes do the unthinkable: we forget.
We forget about all the times we had that testimony of light and love and truth. We forget that we are children of a loving Heavenly Father and that He has a plan for us and itโs a good one. We forget the promise that ALL things work together for good to them that love God.
The scriptures contain the word “remember” about 350 times. When we count variables of the word, that number increases to over 550.
Spencer W. Kimball once said that “…our greatest need is to remember.”
Remember who we are and how much we are loved.
Remember how much we matter to the creator of the universe.
Remember what we have learned and what we know to be true.
Remember what we learned in the Light and know that the darkness has no power.
“And now, O man, remember, and perish not.”
