The Amazing Power of Small Consistent Change
As much as this little one might look like a chicken, it is a vastly different animal. Being just a few days old when this pictures was taken, we can’t see the fullness of what he will become yet. At this stage in development, it’s even hard to determine if this is a male or a female. That will take another several months and a lot more changes. But the DNA inside this little chick contains all the information it needs to grow and develop into its full and glorious potential: a beautiful peacock.
Even when it becomes apparent that a chick is indeed a male, he won’t grow a fully developed set of tail feathers until he is three years old. Even then, they are not at their peak. It will take another 3 years of his approximately 20-year lifespan to reach the long flowing tail feathers we associate with a peacock. During this period, they shed their feathers every year to grow bigger and better ones.
It’s hard to see in the baby peachick the end result of his becoming a magnificent peacock.
But the DNA is there, working to create the needed changes.
As children of God, we have within us divine DNA and the beginnings of becoming much more than we are today. But this too takes time. We struggle with weaknesses and imperfections and have our own ‘thorn in the flesh’ but we also have the seeds of greatness within us.
We were not created to fail.
We were not created to give up.
We were created to return Home and live with Christ forever.
Change does not come all at once but in small minute efforts consistently made over time. Every move forward, every little thing we overcome works together to strengthen us. Satan would have us believe that we must perform grandiose feats of greatness to be of any value. He wants us to believe that small efforts are worthless. But we know that he is the father of lies.
Small improvements over time adds up to big changes. We can shed the old habits and create new and better ones. As Children of God, we are also never alone and help from heaven is always available.
We can do all things through Christ who strengthens us… because we are His.
