The Best Reason to Build Upon Rock
The lighthouse at Battery Point in Crescent City, California has been there since December of 1856. During the 1964 tsunami, caused by the 9.2 earthquake in Alaska, the lightkeepers were stranded inside as 4 massive waves wreaked havoc on the city causing widespread destruction and loss of life.
I can’t imagine what that must have felt like, watching those gigantic waves coming at them and knowing there was no escape. They would have to ride out the pounding surf and hope that their little lighthouse would hold.
And it did! They survived inside that lighthouse as it stood firmly against the crashing waves being rooted to its core foundations deep inside the rock.
And the foundation holds because the rock is solid and unyielding to any kind of weather.
During the Sermon on the Mount, the Lord teaches the Beatitudes, those blessed character traits that when lived, allows us to follow more closely in the Master’s footsteps.
He continues with council that encompasses many, if not all, the relationships of life. He reminds us of who we are, children of a Heavenly Father, and the faith we should have in His watchful, tender care.
He teaches the profound truth that by their fruits ye shall know them.
He ends this magnificent sermon with a warning because He knows the rain will descend and the floods will come, and the winds will beat upon our houses.
He knows the storms are real and painful and exhausting. He knows itโs a matter of when, and not if they come.
The last thing he says is to build our house (our family, our relationships, our way of life) on the sure foundation of rock. Rock that holds steady even in the most violent of storms.
And not sand. Sand that shifts and moves and disappears when you need it most.
Throughout scripture, Jesus and His gospel are referred to as the Rock. A foundation whereupon if we build, we shall not fall.
In these Last Days when the earth is preparing for the Second Coming of our Savior, Satan seeks to disrupt good and cause evil. When the storms and violence are ever brewing, let us not be as those whom the Psalmist wrote about: builders who refused the stone.
Seek the Rock.
Build upon it.
Stand firm.

That Lighthouse is one of my favorites. I love the vacation to Crescent City and Redwoods tops my list. Maybe I should get out more… but this is lovely place.

Ha! It is a lovely place, no matter how many times you get out. ๐ We took our granddaughter on a tour there this summer and it was delightful. Followed up with Chocolate Malted Crunch ice cream that you can only get in California. The redwoods were stunning as always!

My house is built upon that Rock. Storms and raging seas have tried their best but we still stand. On Him. In Him.
Thank you for the lovely picture of Truth.
I love you sister!
