The Promise of Spring and Better Days Ahead
Living in a mountain desert means the constant need for moisture. In the wintertime, our high altitude brings much of that moisture in the form of snow. Water that I know we sorely need in this drought year. Water that transforms the face of our landscape and meets the needs of both farms and cities.
But when I woke up to it snowing yet again this last week with bitter cold temperatures, I found myself wishing for spring and the absence of snow.
The Spring Equinox will be here in just 20 days, yet I still woke up to a 19-degree morning.
It may feel like it will never get here, but spring IS coming!
The earth is still in its orbit and the sun will be moving across the equator going north bringing with it warmer temperatures followed by the fun and playful days of summer.
While we are in the middle of the hardships we face, waiting is hard. Sometimes it even feels as though the end of the trial will never come. The days meld together as we continue to pray for peace and strength and endurance.
But God is still in his heaven, and He never slumbers nor sleeps. He is with us in the stillness of the night as we pour out our heart to Him and wait for the blessed sunrise.
He is keenly aware of the challenges we face and hears every prayer and feels every pleading with his supremely empathetic heart.
Just like the storms and the snow and cold are needed to help replenish our water table enough to sustain us throughout the hot summer months, what we learn through our trials, endows us with greater abilities to see the struggles of others.
If we let them, these hardships increase our compassion, patience, and understanding giving us Christ like attributes. We need these to follow His new commandment to love one another as He has love us.
We all desire to have greater wisdom and ability. We pray for the sustaining power of Heaven to replenish our empty stores of patience and strength. We seek to be able to increase our capacity to keep up with the demands of our life.
Those blessings are coming!
The rising and setting of the sun proves that the days are going… AND coming.
Spring is right around the corner.
